3 Things To Look For In A Good Fur Coat

One of the things I always get excited about as winter approaches is all the fun textures. I love sequins and velvet and chunky knits, and of course, fur. I love that fur has been trending again the last few years — it feels so Vogue or something, you know?

I recently got this new Maximilian fur bomber from Bloomingdales, and it is everything I look for in a fur coat. Maximilian makes an amazing variety of high-end fur coats, from the short, puffy ones, to the longer, sleek looks. They also have some that are full fur coats and some with just pretty fur details… so, so many options! They’re a great place to look if you’re looking to invest in the perfect fur.

Anyways, I’ve been loving this new black one, so I thought I would share my 3 things to look for in a good fur coat:

feeling so vogue

1. Style: this might seem obvious (haha, since this is a style blog) — but seriously — with some coats you’re purely looking for warmth, but when it comes to fur, you’re definitely looking for a great fashion statement and one that will finish off your full look right. It might be worth doing some Pinterest research and figuring out what style you’re going to feel really comfortable in.

2. Quality: Fur coats can be a pretty significant investment so it’s important to look for something that’s great quality. I got my coat at Bloomingdales, which is one of my go-to’s for quality since they really only carry high-end brands. I’m loving that fur has been back “in” for so long so it’s not a trend I have to worry about fading anytime soon, and I can look for a coat that will last.

love the fur-bomber combo

3. Warmth: I went for the short bomber jacket because I wanted something I could wear in our warm LA winters (I have never lived in a cold-weather climate, so I’m always looking for medium-warm winter options, lol). But since a big fur coat is definitely a winter style, keep in mind what materials and cuts will keep you super warm if you live in a cold winter climate or will be pretty breathable for a warmer winter climate.

Here are a few other fur pieces I like from Maximilian’s collection this season:
