Just about a week ago, I came home from an amazing Mexico vacation at the Catalonia Resorts in Tulum and Playa Maroma. This is one of the first vacation trips Tyler and I have ever taken in our marriage – I know, crazy! We’ve been married for over six years but all of our trips together have been business related because when you start a small business, that’s pretty much all you do! We’ve been to Berlin, Japan, Denmark… but coming to Mexico to enjoy a week of relaxation was an incredibly new experience for us as a couple.
From the moment we arrived at the Catalonia Royal Tulum, our expectations were met and beyond. We didn’t realize what a beautiful and green resort we’d be staying in and everyone was so attentive to us. Catalonia is an all-inclusive hotel with at least five different restaurants on each location, plus bars and snacks scattered about. There were also plenty of activities each day – our first and favorite was the mixology class where we got to try about six different mayan shot recipes and walked away a little tipsy…
Below are photos I took of the properties and some more of what we experienced while there. Such an incredible time!
At the Royal Tulum we enjoyed the serenity of the pools and beaches. This was the adult hotel (18+ years) and even at a high vacation time, the hotel wasn’t overcrowded. It was so easy to get settled in and feel like home as we got to know some of the staff very quickly. Every server, salsa teacher and bartender became a friend.
We were surprised to find little creatures called Coati, roaming around the hotel grounds. They are so cute! Someone told us they belong to the raccoon family but they have these long noses and travel in groups of ten or more, hopping around looking for food.
We got a warm welcome from the hotel when we arrived to our room – champagne and sweets!
It was nice to have a balcony facing in towards to hotel because look at this view! It’s like we were in a jungle and just beyond the trees is a beautiful beach… the best of both worlds, right?! Tyler loves trees and greenery so he was in heaven here.
Each morning in Tulum we went to The Bloved. This was the waterfront restaurant with the best view… I loved drinking coffee and soaking it up every morning.
Remember how I told you Catalonia is all-inclusive??? We definitely enjoy a plate or two (or three) at each meal! My favorites were Huevos Rancheros for breakfast, the amazing omelettes, the Thai restaurant and the Steakhouse where I usually got grilled fish.
Like I said, he was in heaven!
Midway through our vacation we headed over to the Catalonia Playa Maroma. This is the beautiful lobby where you’ll also find a 24-hour bar and buffet!
Playa Maroma was full of energy, music and fun. It is an all-ages hotel so they also had some great options for the kiddos if that’s something you’re looking for. In this location I enjoyed the Creperie, the fresh squeezed juice from Ma Loo, and laying in luxurious canopies on the private beach.
Looking back at these photos just makes me want to visit again and it’s only been a week! We had such a special time and I totally recommend choosing the Catalonia resorts when you plan your next Mexico vacation.
