If you’ve read any of my other beauty posts you probably know that I really value staying healthy and taking care of my body as a whole – not just hitting the gym and trying not to eat Red Vines all the time (ultimate weakness) – but really trying to eliminate things that aren’t good me. I don’t think I always remember how much my skin and hair and nails can be affected by all of the stress and pollution of living in a big city. It’s pretty common knowledge that the sun’s UV-rays and aren’t good for our skin and that bleach isn’t good for our hair. But when it comes to how I keep my hair looking healthy, I’ve recently discovered how important it is to take care of the forgotten details. I’ve noticed that urban aggressors like dust, pollution and even the affects of hard water can leave my hair very dry and lackluster.

I recently had an experience at Luxe Lab in Santa Monica where I was reminded of exactly that. I went to get a blow out with Shu Uemura’s Urban Moisture Collection: the shampoo, the mask, and the serum spray. The collection is focused on people who live in a city environment that are constantly surrounded by pollution and UV rays, and it’s also beneficial to color treated hair… so basically it was meant for me. In the midst of fashion month my hair is typically feeling it’s worst and after my visit to the salon it was like night and day! I was beginning to feel the ends of my hair get brittle and the Urban Moisture Collection added all the moisture back. My hair felt silky smooth – softer than it’s ever been since I started coloring my hair and super shiny!
The great thing about all of this is that it’s a treatment that you can do at home! It’s so nice to go into a salon and treat yourself to a mask and blow-dry, but I’m using my shampoo, mask and serum at home as a daily and weekly routine to keep up the shine and maintain the health of my hair.
I had such a great experience and also love how naturally my waves curled, thanks to my stylist, Lauren Sill. I definitely want to check them out again, and I’m so glad a product exists that can keep my hair looking healthy while I do the city thing!
