Messy Waves for Short Hair

Outfits Of The Week: Santa Barbara to LA Summer Days - Take Aim - Floral Dress

I’ve been getting tons of requests for a tutorial on how I do my messy waves with shorter hair so I filmed a short video for IGTV!  A messy wave has become my go-to hair style because it’s super quick (I can do it in about 10 minutes) and I know it’ll look good and give my hair volume all day long.  Whether my hair has been long or short, I do the same exact curl – so if you’re reading and watching and don’t have short hair like mine right now, you can still do it exactly the same!

I made a list of all the products I use to get volume, texture and hold. My hair is naturally pretty straight and smooth to begin with, and also very thick, so you might need to experiment with different products if you have curly hair.

Here are some of my favorite products:

hair prep

Maria Nila Argan Oil– Love this product to use on wet hair to seal in moisture.

IGK Leave-In Conditioner– This product is also great for making my hair soft and acts as a heat protectant as well. It is a spray, which I love, and it smells AMAZING.

Kerastase Heat Lotion– This is a great product for anyone who says there hair does not style easily. It allows your hair to be easily manipulated with heat so that it can hold a curl or stay straight.

T3 and Dyson (blow dryer)- Love both of these hair dryers! My salon has the Dyson blow dryer and I just got one for myself! I am always amazed at how quickly it dries your hair without damaging it.

T3 Curling Iron – My go to curling iron for years! My favorite thing about it is that it comes with three different barrels so you can swap out for the size of curl that you want.

1 Inch Barrel From GHD

Maison Pierson Brush – This brush has so many great reviews, it is a bit pricey but I have heard great things about it. Wet Brush- A staple brush that I have used for years. It is gentle on your hair and it is incredibly affordable!

Creative Hair Brush

styling products

Big Sexy Hair Powder Play– Gives you all-day volume – just sprinkle a little at your roots.

IGK Texture Spray– Best texture spray! I seriously go through my bottles so quickly!

Oribe Texture Spray– Another great texture spray I have used a ton over the last few years.

IGK Coconut Oil Gel for smoothing- My final step in styling my hair, it smooths out flyaways and great for dry ends.
