It’s always encouraging to stumble upon companies who value the people they serve as much as the product they sell. State Bags have been doing some really cool things over the last several years. I like how they describe themselves as a “for-profit company with a nonprofit pedigree.”

The business concept is simple, and probably one you’ve heard of: for every bag or backpack sold, one is given away (filled with needed supplies) to a child in need. The idea came from a desire to help kids who are growing up in challenging and critical circumstances. After seeing droves of children walking to school with trash bags full of textbooks and school supplies, the founders decided it was time to start giving back—or giving backpacks that is! Such a cool idea as well as a worthwhile cause.
